SGI Team Wins Big at K'NEX Design Challenge

Huge congrats to the Spring Grove Area Intermediate School Melon Mates team – William Hall, Mario DeRienzo, and Emma Lewis – for their stellar performance at recent K'NEX Design Challenges. In February, they competed at the LIU Regional Competition, winning first place and securing a spot at the State Competition. At the State Competition at the PA Farm Show Complex this past weekend, they placed second against twenty-five teams!

Their K'NEX challenge was to design an agricultural robot or other high-tech farming equipment that farmers could use to help with food demands that increase with population growth. The team designed the "Melonator," an autonomous tractor that can pick, clean, conveyor, and load watermelons using GPS and a robotic farmer.

Thank you, Mrs. Beth Mowrey, for being the team advisor and inspiring these young minds!
