Spring Grove Students Shine at Hanover Gymnastics
The Hanover Gymnastics team, comprising nearly thirty talented gymnasts from various schools within the Spring Grove Area Schook District, has seen significant growth. This year’s team has nearly doubled in size compared to the fifteen gymnasts from last year and tripled from the ten gymnasts in 2022.
The girls' team showcased their skills at multiple competitions this season. Hanover Gymnastics hosted the season’s first meet, the Tim Weaver Invitational, featuring both the boys' and girls' teams. Subsequently, the gymnasts competed at various prestigious events, including the Liberty Cup, Katie Baldwin Invitational, Centre Elite Classic, Hill’s MD Classic, Flipping with the Stars, Hugs and Kisses, WinWin Classic, Temple Invite, Frederick Classic, Golden Rams, and Handspring for Hope. The boys' team also had an impressive season, competing at the Tim Weaver Invitational and continuing their journey at the Jose Strong Classic, Centre Elite Classic, Sportsplex Team Classic, Brian Babcock, United Challenge, and Fred Turoff.
Both teams concluded their seasons by participating in their respective Pennsylvania State Championships. Additionally, several higher-level gymnasts qualified for Region 7 Regionals, with aspirations to advance to the Eastern Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The Hanover Gymnastics teams had an outstanding season, with numerous gymnasts earning medals and achieving personal bests. Highlights of the season include:
- Kaelyn Klunk (PES) qualified for the Level 3 State Championships.
- Leeah King (SGFlex), Gemma Gantz (NSE), Quinn Yohe (SGE), Aubrey Hartman (SGE), and Maylee Campbell (SGE) qualified for Level 4 State Championships, with Maylee securing 3rd place on bars.
- Aubree and Rachel King (SGFlex) qualified for the Level 6 State Championships, with Rachel finishing third on the floor.
- Anna Kaminkow (SGFlex) qualified for the Level 7 State Championships.
- Joslynn Klunk (SGAMS), Hadley Ziegler (SGI), and Vienna DeRienzo (SGI) qualified for the Level 8 State Championships, with Vienna finishing 2nd on the beam. Hadley and Vienna both qualified for Level 8 Regionals.
- Ruby Trimmer (SGI) started her season on the Level 7 team, advanced to Level 8 mid-season, and qualified for the Level 8 State Championships.
- Ashlyn Herrington (SGAMS) and Didi Kalathas (SGAMS) qualified for the XCEL Gold State Championships and XCEL Regionals, with Didi finishing 2nd in the all-around at Regionals.
- Temperance Lawyer (SGE) and Emma Brooks (SGI) qualified for the XCEL Silver State Championships. Emma finished 2nd on vault and became the PA State Champion on beam and in the all-around.
- Brianna Arnold (SGAHS) qualified for the XCEL Platinum State Championships and XCEL Regionals as an event specialist in beam.
- Mario Derienzo (SGI) qualified for Level 6 D1 State Championships, finishing 2nd on the parallel bars, and for Level 6 D1 Regionals, finishing 3rd on the parallel bars.
